2024 Vintage — Rioja DOCa, Spain
Bodegas Valenciso, founded in 1998 by Luis Valentín and Carmen Enciso (hence the name), is one of Rioja Alta’s most quietly serious modern estates. The team — including legendary consultant Ana Martín — has built a small portfolio of single-wine-per-style cuvées that focus on restraint, elegance and texture rather than power or extraction.
The Valenciso Rioja Blanco is 100% Viura — Rioja’s traditional white grape — sourced from older parcels on cooler, higher-altitude clay-limestone sites in the village of Ollauri. Hand-harvested, gently pressed, then fermented and aged for several months in seasoned French oak with regular lees stirring. The wine sees no malolactic conversion, preserving Viura’s natural acidity. Built for the table rather than the bottle bank — drinks beautifully on release with a few years of cellar potential.
