Deep ruby-purple. Lifted aromas of plum, red cherry and mulberry over white pepper, dried herbs, garrigue and a touch of smoked meat. Medium-bodied, juicy and gluggable, with fresh acidity, fine peppery tannins and a savoury Swartland finish. A cracking house red for grilled meats, charcuterie, mushroom pasta, herby stews or a Sunday roast.

Mullineux Family Wines, founded by Chris and Andrea Mullineux, is one of the Swartland’s flag-bearers and a defining voice of the new-wave Cape. Working from old-vine parcels on Kasteelberg, Paardeberg and the granite/schist/iron soils that make the region distinctive, they produce site-driven wines with tension, freshness and a strong sense of place.
The ‘Kloof Street’ range is Mullineux’s more accessible second label — old-vine, low-intervention, and made in the same house style as their flagship wines. **Swartland Rouge** is a Syrah-led blend (typically with Cinsault, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre) from dryland Swartland fruit, whole-bunch fermented in part with native yeast, then aged briefly in older oak to keep the fruit lifted and the drinkability high.
