Franco Conterno Langhe Freisa Cascina Sciulun 2022

£24.95 incl. VAT

6 in stock

Garnet-red with purple highlights. Lifted, perfumed nose of wild strawberry, raspberry, sour cherry and rose petal with a savoury undertone of dried herbs and crushed earth. Light- to medium-bodied with bright Piemontese acidity, fine but firm tannins and a clean, dry finish with a faint bitter-almond twist typical of the grape. Brilliant with cured meats, charcuterie, fatty pasta dishes, agnolotti and pizza.

2022 Vintage — Langhe DOC, Piedmont, Italy

Franco Conterno is a small family estate in Bussia di Monforte d’Alba — heart of the Barolo zone — where the Conterno family has farmed since the 1920s. The estate’s Barolos are the headline, but they also champion the Langhe’s lesser-known native varieties from the same calcareous-clay soils.

Freisa is an old Piedmontese red grape and a documented genetic parent of Nebbiolo — sharing the perfume but in a brighter, juicier, more accessible style. The “Cascina Sciulun” cuvée comes from Conterno’s Bussia parcels, hand-harvested and vinified in stainless steel with a brief maceration to preserve fruit lift. Bottled young for early drinking — a versatile Piedmontese table red rather than a cellar bottle.
