2020 Vintage — Calchaquí Valley, Salta, Argentina
Bodega Colomé sits high in the Calchaquí Valleys of Salta in north-west Argentina, with vineyards stretching from 1,700m at Molinos up to the world’s highest commercial plantings at Altura Máxima (3,111m). The ‘Lote Especial’ line is a single-parcel selection — the Tannat is drawn from Finca Colomé at around 2,300m, the same valley floor that delivers the estate’s flagship Malbec.
100% Tannat. Hand-harvested from old, dry-farmed vines on stony, sandy-loam soils. The extreme altitude delivers wide diurnal swings (hot days, cold nights), concentrating colour, polyphenols and aromatic intensity while preserving acidity. Vinified in stainless steel followed by ageing in French oak (a portion new) for around 12 months. Tannat is the signature variety of Uruguay but thrives at these high Salta altitudes, where the cool nights tame its naturally firm tannins.
