Van Biljon sits on the southern slopes of the Polkadraai Hills just outside Stellenbosch, on decomposed granite soils cooled by breezes off False Bay. Cinq is the estate’s flagship: a classical Cape Bordeaux blend of all five varieties, made by Chris Keet.
The 2018 is 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 9% Malbec. Structured and savoury, with cassis and graphite, fine tannins and the freshness the site’s granite and maritime aspect reliably deliver.
