Morgenster Estate Reserve 2015

£46.95 incl. VAT

5 in stock

A mature, gracefully evolved Bordeaux blend. Deep garnet with tertiary lift of cedar, cigar box, dried herbs and mulberry preserve on the nose. The palate is fully resolved and complete — layered dark fruit, integrated tannins, savoury oak in support and a long, mineral finish. A rare opportunity to enjoy Cape Bordeaux at 10 years and drinking beautifully now.

2015 Vintage — Somerset West, Stellenbosch, South Africa

Morgenster’s flagship red — a Bordeaux-style blend from one of the Cape’s most historic estates. The property, first granted in 1711, sits on the eastern slopes of the Helderberg mountains near False Bay, benefiting from cooling ocean breezes and structured decomposed-granite soils. Under the stewardship of the Giulio Bertrand family since 1993, Morgenster has established itself as a serious Bordeaux-blend specialist — with consulting input over the years from some of Saint-Émilion’s most respected winemakers.

The 2015 Estate Reserve — sometimes labelled “Morgenster Rouge” — is a traditional Bordeaux composition, majority Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with the finishing touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Grapes were hand-harvested from the estate’s mature vineyards, fermented with careful cap management and aged for around 24 months in French oak barriques, a portion new.

Now at 10 years of age, this is a mature, gracefully evolved release drinking in an ideal window — a rare chance to enjoy Cape Bordeaux in full stride.
