2025 Vintage — Constantia, Western Cape, South Africa
Buitenverwachting (Dutch for “beyond expectation”) is one of Constantia’s most historic estates, sitting on the cool, granite-soiled slopes that drop towards False Bay. The Maack family have farmed it since 1981 and Lars Maack now runs the property, with viticulture and winemaking shaped by the cold Cape Doctor winds that blow in from the South Atlantic — a maritime climate closer to coastal Bordeaux or New Zealand’s Marlborough than to South Africa’s hotter inland regions.
The Estate Sauvignon Blanc is the entry into Buitenverwachting’s white range, produced from younger blocks across the estate. Cool-fermented in stainless steel to preserve aromatic precision, unwooded, bottled young for early drinking. The 2025 vintage shows the clean cool-climate Constantia signature — gooseberry, granny smith, white nectarine and a flick of fresh herbs over a chalky-saline backbone.
