Masseria Pioppeto Taurasi 2015

£24.95 incl. VAT

3 in stock

Deep, brooding garnet shading to a tawny rim — typical of mature Aglianico. Complex nose of black cherry, dried fig and bramble fruit over leather, sweet tobacco, dried herbs and crushed-stone minerality. Full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins, vibrant Aglianico acidity and a long, savoury finish of cherry pip and forest floor. Built for grilled lamb, wild boar ragù, aged Pecorino or simply a winter evening.

2015 Vintage — Taurasi DOCG, Campania, Italy

Masseria Pioppeto is a small family estate in Pietradefusi, in the Avellino province at the heart of Campania’s volcanic hill country. The estate has farmed Aglianico here for generations on the iron-rich clay-limestone and tufaceous soils that give Taurasi its dark fruit, savoury structure and long ageing potential.

100% Aglianico — Taurasi DOCG’s only permitted grape — from old-vine parcels at 400–500m. Hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel, then aged in a combination of large Slavonian botte and smaller French barriques for at least 24 months before further bottle-ageing prior to release. Often called “the Barolo of the South” for its tannic structure, age-worthiness and cool-fruited character.
