Brilliant cherry-red with violet edge. Penetrating, complex nose of ripe blueberry, blackberry and black plum with balsamic and spicy notes, fine cedar and toasted oak, and an underlying lift of black pepper, liquorice and clove. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with fine, mature tannins, balanced acidity and a long, persistent finish framed by sweet spice and dark fruit. Drink 2026–2032.

2022 Vintage — Ribera del Duero DO, Spain

Bodegas Áster is the Ribera del Duero estate of the La Rioja Alta group, founded in Anguix on the south bank of the Duero river. The estate built its reputation under La Rioja Alta’s classic playbook of long oak ageing, low yields and selection-driven viticulture, and the Reserva sits at the heart of the range — drawn from three estate parcels (Fuentecojo, La Cueva and Otero Joven) of older-vine Tinta del País planted on calcareous-clay soils.

100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo). Hand-harvested with strict berry selection, fermented in stainless steel and aged for an extended period in 75% new French oak barriques followed by further bottle ageing before release — meeting the Reserva DO requirement of at least three years’ total ageing with a minimum of twelve months in oak. The 2022 vintage was warm and dry in Ribera del Duero, producing ripe, structured wines with the depth and ageing potential the appellation is famous for.
