Tramin Lagrein Alto Adige 2024

£17.95 incl. VAT

6 in stock

Deep ruby-garnet with purple hints. The nose offers violet, blackberry and cherry with earthy undertones. On the palate — raspberry, dark cherry, bittersweet chocolate, black liquorice and spice, with powerful but well-integrated tannins and a long, fresh finish. A characterful expression of Alto Adige’s most distinctive red grape.

2024 Vintage — Alto Adige DOC, South Tyrol, Italy

Lagrein is Alto Adige’s great indigenous red grape — found almost nowhere else in the world, and at its finest in the gravelly, well-drained soils of the Bolzano basin. Cantina Tramin has been working with the variety for generations, sourcing fruit from sandy, deep soils laced with limestone, porphyry and gravel at between 250 and 400 metres above sea level. The combination of high altitude, warm days and cool mountain nights gives the wine its characteristic mix of dark fruit concentration and refreshing natural acidity.

For the 2024, grapes are hand-harvested and transported in small containers to preserve freshness. After destemming, fermentation takes place under controlled temperature of 28–30°C in small stainless-steel tanks and concrete vats, with daily pump-overs to build colour and tannin. Malolactic fermentation follows, and the wine then ages for a minimum of six months in a combination of wooden barrels and concrete vats. The 2024 vintage brought a warm summer and ideal harvest conditions, delivering red wines of excellent structure and vibrant fruit character.
