2025 Vintage u2014 Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa
Steenberg was founded in 1682 by Catharina Ras as the very first wine farm in the Cape’s Constantia valley, the cradle of the South African wine industry. The property sits on the cool, ocean-influenced southern flank of Table Mountain, where the salt-laced breezes off False Bay temper the African sun and give Steenberg’s wines their hallmark precision and lift. The estate has long been the benchmark for South African Sauvignon Blanc u2014 cool-climate, mineral, salt-edged, more reminiscent of the Loire or Marlborough than the country’s hotter inland regions.
The estate Sauvignon Blanc is 100% varietal, hand-harvested from established Constantia blocks at low yields. Whole-bunch pressed and cool-fermented in stainless steel to lock in aromatic precision; no oak influence. Bottled young for early drinking.
The 2025 release shows the signature Steenberg drive u2014 vivid gooseberry, white grapefruit, kiwi and a touch of green fig on the nose, with the classic Constantia herbal-saline edge of cut grass, sea spray and crushed flint. The palate is crisp, lean and lifted with a clean mineral finish that lingers without sweetness. A serious, food-friendly Sauvignon Blanc u2014 excellent with oysters, goat’s cheese, ceviche or simply as an aperitif.
