The palate is full-bodied and beautifully layered — firm but polished tannins, vibrant Stellenbosch acidity, savoury oak, dark fruit and a long, mineral, gravel-tinged finish. Cellarable for decades.

Mvemve Raats MR de Compostella is a joint project between Bruwer Raats (Raats Family Wines) and Mzokhona ‘Mzo’ Mvemve — the Cape’s first black South African qualified viticulturist. Since its first release in 2004, the wine has become one of South Africa’s most sought-after Cabernet-led Bordeaux blends: a benchmark of Stellenbosch structure and precision, with the wine industry’s social conscience in every bottle.
Classic five-way Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, hand-harvested from selected Stellenbosch vineyards. Fermented in stainless steel with gentle extraction, then aged for around 24 months in French oak (a significant proportion new) before extended bottle ageing prior to release.
