The palate is medium-bodied, precise and tight-knit — fine chalky tannins, cool-climate acidity, layered red fruit and a long, savoury, stone-tinged finish. Windansea is Newton Johnson’s single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the family’s iconic hillside block in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Planted on decomposed shale at elevation, cooled by the Atlantic breezes rolling off Walker Bay, the site produces one of South Africa’s most respected Pinot Noirs — a benchmark of Cape Pinot precision.
100% single-vineyard Pinot Noir, hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. Whole-berry and partial whole-bunch fermentation with wild yeasts and gentle plunging, then matured for around 11 months in French oak (a moderate proportion new). Minimal handling throughout.
