Deep, brooding nose of blackcurrant, cassis, dark plum, graphite, cedar and a whisper of tobacco. Full-bodied and structured on the palate with ripe but fine-grained tannins, layered dark fruit, savoury oak spice and a long, mineral, gravel-tinged finish.
2017 Vintage — Constantia, Western Cape, South Africa
Christine is Buitenverwachting’s flagship Bordeaux-style red blend, named after Christine Mueller, the matriarch of the family that revived the estate in the 1980s. The blend draws from the estate’s prime cool-climate Constantia vineyards — granite-rich, south-east facing slopes cooled by False Bay’s maritime breeze.
Classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Hand-harvested from old vines, fermented in stainless steel with extended maceration, then aged for around 24 months in French oak (approximately 60% new). A wine built for the cellar.
