Áster Finca El Espino 2020

£42.95 incl. VAT

3 in stock

Deep, opaque ruby with violet edge. The nose offers concentrated black plum, cassis and ripe blackberry, with notes of black pepper, liquorice, cedar, sweet spice and a savoury graphite/mineral lift from the limestone terroir. Full-bodied and structured on the palate, with fine-grained ripe tannins, vibrant Ribera acidity, layered dark fruit and a long, persistent finish. Drink 2026–2032.

2020 Vintage — Ribera del Duero DO, Spain

Bodegas Áster is the Ribera del Duero estate of the La Rioja Alta group, established in Anguix on the south bank of the Duero river. The estate’s portfolio steps up from the Crianza and Reserva tiers to two single-vineyard bottlings; ‘Finca El Espino’ is one of these — drawn exclusively from a small, north-facing parcel of old Tinta del País (Tempranillo) vines planted on stony, limestone-rich soils at altitude.

100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo). Hand-harvested with strict berry selection, fermented in stainless steel and then aged for an extended period in French oak barriques (a substantial portion new) before further bottle ageing prior to release. The ‘El Espino’ bottling sits above the standard Reserva — a more concentrated, sappy, single-site expression that aims to capture the personality of one specific parcel rather than the blended house style. 2020 was a balanced, classically structured Ribera del Duero vintage.
