Climate
Winter and spring 2018 were characterized by temperatures slightly below average and frequent rainfall. These climatic conditions ensured the accumulation of excellent water reserves in the soil, favoring regular budding and excellent fruit set. The defoliation carried out in June and the thinning of the grapes between the end of July and the beginning of August ensured excellent vegetative balance and optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest, slightly delayed compared to the historical average, began on September 21st and ended in the first days of October with healthy and fragrant grapes.
Winemaking
Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and softly pressed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration lasted an average of twelve days at a temperature of 28 °C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels of between 30 and 80 Hl where it began its maturation process in wood. After two years, Pian delle Vigne left the large barrel to begin a long refinement in the bottle.
