Harvest started slightly later than average on February 18th, 2014. The weather stayed consistently moderate for the harvest period. Grape bloom and veraison were short, which facilitated evenness in ripening throughout the vineyard. The Merlot blocks in particular were surpassing expectations resulting in the Series M 2014 showing great colour and concentration.
Series M matured for twenty-two months in French oak barriques and another year in bottle before release. Merlot (thirty-nine per cent) gives Series M its suppleness and complex red fruit flavours, Malbec (thirty-six per cent) provides deep black fruit aromas. Cabernet Sauvignon (twenty-five per cent) grounds the Series M with structure and density.
Cellaring this wine for two years will enhance integration and flavour complexity and will reward the collector. With proper cellaring, 2014 Vilafonté Series M’s generous flavours will be enhanced over the next decade and provide additional pleasure for many years. Decanting before serving is recommended for any wine of advanced complexity.
